Statement of Purpose
The purpose of Northern Illawarra Meals on Wheels Inc. is to provide an efficient, comprehensive and flexible service that delivers nutritious meals and social support to eligible service users. The service delivered will be modelled on the principle of wellness and enablement with the service user’s goals in mind when planning service delivery model and outcomes. Provision of services will aim at improving quality of life and meeting user’s individual goals.
Philosophy
Northern Illawarra Meals on Wheels Inc. believe that:
- People have the right to make choices and have control in their own lives;
- People have the right to dignity, respect, privacy and confidentiality;
- People have the right to be valued as individuals;
- People have the right to access services on a non-discriminatory basis;
- We will work in conjunction with service user’s case workers and/or advocates to meet individual goals and wishes.
- People have the right to have their individual goals, dietary requirements and cultural preferences catered for and;
- The community has the right to expect the service to be accountable and responsive.
Outcomes
The outcomes pursued by Northern Illawarra Meals on Wheels Inc. are:
- That people who are frail aged or disabled have their individual goals and wishes met and that primary care givers are supported in their role.
- That the agency operates in an effective, efficient and accountable manner.
- That the agency provides a service of the highest quality for all clients that meet their individual goals and needs.
- That the highest standard of food safety is met.
- That adequate training and supervision is provided for all personnel;
- That Northern Illawarra Meals on Wheels Inc. strive to achieve the highest possible compliance with Community Home Support Program manual and guidelines.
Target Group
Frail older people with a functional disability, younger people with a disability and their unpaid carers. Older in this context is defined as being 65 years and over or 50 years and over for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
The overall objective of the Commonwealth Community Support Programs is to enhance the independence of frail older people and to avoid or delay their premature admission to long term residential care through the provision of high quality entry level maintenance, support and care services with a strong emphasis of wellness and re-enablement. These are defined as those services essential to a person’s wellbeing, for example, personal care and community nursing.
